Applying for Jobs at WVPT

  • Inquiries on job openings may be made by phone to the Administrative Assistant to the General Manager
  • All current job openings are posted in various newspapers and other pertinent publications
  • In response to a job opening, forward the necessary, fully completed materials to WVPT before the stated closing date

Job Opportunities

Broadcast Engineer

WVPT Public Media

Job Duties:

* Support day to day broadcast television production, digital first initiatives and IT/IP operations 
* Work on projects and assist with design and implementation  
* Work closely within a larger team of creative production specialists to create award winning clear and compelling content for distribution worldwide  
* Respond to calls regarding technical issues 
* Work with internal WVPT team members and vendors to resolve problems as necessary 
* Assist with implementation of software upgrades and system expansions 
* Perform periodic maintenance procedures such as system health checks and proactive system restarts 
* Document support procedures specific to systems 
* Manage and work on projects in the areas of Tricaster, Intercom, Cameras, Routers, Switches, LAN, WAN, WLAN, Proxies, Load Balancers, Firewalls (Internet, 3rd party and internal), DMZ, Remote Access, Authentication, DNS, 

Basic Qualifications:

* BS in Broadcast Engineering/TV Production/Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent professional experience 
* 4+ years of support in in a live broadcast/IT environment/content creation area. 
* Demonstrated understanding of production, their operations, the edit and control systems, the best network practice, systems, transmission, server based work flows and microwave, satellite, fiber and bonded cellular systems 

Additional Job Requirements:

* Must be willing to live and work in Rockingham County, VA or a surrounding County
* Must have a way to and from work 
* Willingness to travel and work shifts/overtime and on weekends with short notice

Desired Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have experience with the following systems: 

* Mpeg II, Mpeg III, Mpeg IV, and Mpeg V editing and content creation systems, Studio and remote/field lighting and the techniques to achieve such, Graphics branding devices, Transcoding and delivery systems, Transmission Encoding/Decoding Systems, Storage systems,  Network infrastructure (Switches, Routers, etc.) , IT Systems such as Servers, Workstations, SQL Databases, Broadcast Infrastructure (Routers, Frame Sync’s, Intercom, etc.) 
* CCNA/CCNP certified a plus 
* Knowledge of Cisco Network equipment a plus 
* VMware VCA/VCP certified a plus 
* Demonstrated ability in joint collaboration, communication and troubleshooting 
* Effective interpersonal skills and exemplary team player
* Demonstrated successful design, planning and implementation of wide and local area network architecture, including capacity planning and technical troubleshooting of multiple Raid array large scale NAS,and SAS for mission critical content storage and file management
* Must have expertise in network security and access control systems and related strategies. 
* Expertise working on a team with motivated cross-functional individuals focused on a common goal of delivering cutting edge solutions to meet aggressive business demands in an ever-changing environment.

Major Gifts Officer(s)

Job Description:

WVPT Public Media is seeking part time experienced Major Gifts Officers who will be responsible for the cultivation, maintenance and growth of individual giving at assigned levels.

Geographically you will be cover the area you are familiar with, either Rockingham, Augusta, or Albemarle counties.

The responsibilities for this position include:

Defining and implementing strategy for cultivation and nurturing of individual donors to increase giving that meets organizational goals
Building relationships with donors and creating opportunities to expand giving
Supporting execution of special donor events including dinners and trips
Representing WVPT in meetings and at events with major donors
Writing as needed for development activities and campaigns

Internships

Web Production Intern
To prepare, publish and maintain website content through the company’s content management system. Interns may also support Interactive Producers in content research, development, production, and creating procedure documentation. WVPT.net is a dynamic interactive platform that enhances our brand and expands the SVETC presence 24/7; users depend on it for timely content and ondemand videos.



Marketing and Communications Intern
This is an ideal position for a Marketing, Communications or Public Relations major interested in new media & television, in building his or her portfolio of writing samples, and interested in social media.



Community Engagement Project Intern
The WVPT Community Engagement department extends the impact of public broadcasting through a variety of media services, materials and collaborative activities designed to engage individuals and foster community by addressing issues of concern. Interns provide support for our community engagement initiatives and donor events.
